Dave Simons announced that he will run for President of the Savannah-Chatham County School Board yesterday at the Savannah Area Women Republicans’ luncheon and concluded his announcement with this declaration. “I promise I will not vote for a property tax increase, ever.”
Mr. Simons is the head of Simons Political Group and is also a lieutenant colonel in the Georgia Air National Guard. He recently returned from a deployment in Afghanistan.
His office made the announcement to the press this morning with the following press release:
For the past three months, I have contemplated running for the elected office of President of the Savannah-Chatham County School Board. This elected office is rarely coveted but has the biggest impact on our future…the future of our children. It also has the biggest impact on our tax digest, on corporate entities locating here, our economic potential and growth, and our prosperity.
To that end, I have decided that, in the interest of working to help our collective futures, I will run for School Board President. As many of you know, this isn’t a lightly regarded decision. There have been discussions, polling, contemplation with my friends, clients, family and my Lord and the end result is that this is where I believe my education, experience, and skills can help make a difference.
Over the next few days, I will outline my platform. These are the issues of the day that must be addressed and ones for which I am highly committed.
We must develop our students to be ready to enter our workforce and be the future of our great community.
I will not vote for a property tax increase…ever.
I also believe that the Greater Savannah business community needs a seat at the table when it is time to replace our current school board superintendent, which is destined to happen in the next couple of years.
Over the next few days I will make a formal announcement. In addition, more details will follow on these issues but for now, I have outlined the basis for my candidacy. I hope you will support me and endorse me as I make this trek. But regardless of what you decide, you all will be my friends. Thank you.
